2019 Spring Classic Tournament: March 9-10, 2019

Hosted by NW Juniors Volleyball Club

Tournament Information:

The 2019 Spring Classic Tournament is an open entry tournament for teams looking for an alternative to playing in Central Washington or looking for an alternative travel tournament that is not a National Qualifier. The tournament is for teams of all levels. This is the first year as an AAU Super Regional. We find that several teams attend post season AAU events, and this tournament gives you another opportunity to use your AAU Membership and - more importantly - a chance to earn free entry to one of THREE AAU Post Season Events.

The tournament will be held at the NW Sports Hub -- a 14 court facility in Centralia. More courts are secured within a 5 mile radius of the HUB so teams will not have to worry about a lot of driving from the central core of tournament hotels. NW Sports Hub will add four more courts in 2020 so there is room for expansion.

There will be two rounds of pool play, followed by single elimination play. We will be awarding medals to to top three teams in each age group, so we will play off for third place in all age groups.

Saturday will be one round of pool and the beginning of the second round of pool play. Sunday will be the completion of the second round of pool and all of the playoff matches. All teams will play pool play matches on Sunday and have tournament play Sunday afternoon. Medals will be awarded to the top three teams in each age group.

Doors open at 7:30 AM.
There is a mandatory coaches meeting Saturday at 8:00 AM. All teams must attend and verify their rosters. Please be prepared to show proof of membership for those that were not inputted in your AES Roster.

Play will begin at 8:30 AM both days of the competition.

Last Scheduled Match Saturday is 4:00 PM
Last Scheduled Match Sunday is 3:30 PM

Below is a copy of the tournament handbook. Please be sure to print out a copy. We will NOT provide handbooks at the coaches meeting.

NOTE ON ROSTERS:

Coaches/Club Directors:

We will be printing out AES rosters for all the teams and will have them available for you to sign at the coaches meeting. Some directors have emailed us that they are having some issues getting all their players through AES. Here is a response I received from AAU regarding rosters and membership verification:

"Through AES they should be submitting rosters with their AAU memberships verified.  They can do this by doing the import from AAU in their AES account.  If for some reason some of their members do not show up as verified, they can show you a copy of their AAU membership card to prove they have a 2019 membership."

It might also be a good idea to login to your AAU and print out a member list, just to be safe. With so many teams coming from out of town, I do not want there to be an instance where we cannot allow a player to play because they cannot prove their AAU membership.

Additional Tournament/ AAU Information

* Winning teams in age divisions with 12 or more teams will receive a free entry fee to the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships, Volleyball Festival in Phoenix or the West Coast Championships in Las Vegas, NV.  In divisions with less than 12 teams, the entry to AAU Nationals will be discounted. All teams must register for the event by the appropriate deadline. All three tournaments are open to any team, no qualifying required. Why the Spring Classic is a better Travel Tournament option

We realize that there is an established inter-regional tournament on the weekend we chose to host our Spring Classic Tournament. That is not by accident. Our club teams have been traveling this same weekend every year, but the quality of the tournament we have attended has deteriorated over the years. We have run the Presidents Day Weekend tournament for over 20 years, and running large format tournaments is our specialty. Here is why our tournament is better:

  • It's an AAU Super Regional! Teams from all over the Northwest will come to compete. For champions, they get a free tournament entry to one of three AAU Championship tournaments: West Coast Championships (Las Vegas), Volleyball Festival (Phoenix), AAU Nationals (Orlando).
  • The tournament HQ is a better venue. With 14 courts under one roof, we can give more teams that "big tournament feel".
  • For your non-National teams that are looking for a good tournament to play in, we give them a better experience; in a location that is easy to get to halfway between Seattle and Portland.
  • The format will be the same, but the logistics are better. Your teams will play pool play, plus at least one more match on Saturday, then finish pool play and have playoffs on Sunday. There are about 30 courts within about a 10 mile radius, so travel between gyms is easy. This close proximity and the size of the HQ means we can have all the GOLD Divisions under one roof on Sunday.
  • All under one roof: concessions, 14 courts, tee-shirt vendor, spectator seating. It's the feel of a Qualifier without the cost and inconveniences.
