Or Third Annual Mother's Day Challenge (MDC) is an open entry for any team that wants to play in a late-season travel tournament - a convenient drive from Seattle or Portland. Teams will be accepted first come (paid), first served, until the tournament fills. This is a two-day format event.
The tournament will be held primarily at the 18-court NW Sports Hub and will utilize various schools in and around the Centralia area on Sunday if needed. More courts are secured within a 5 mile radius of the HUB so teams will not have to worry about a lot of driving from the central core tournament hotels.
Format will be one full round of pool on Saturday, followed by the start of round 2 of pool. We will complete second pool on Sunday followed by single elimination play. Teams are guaranteed at least 6 matches of play.
Yes, we know that we are hosting a tournament on the same weekend as another established Mother's Day Weekend Tournament. We like the weekend for travel for our teams, but we don't like the format or the long drive for 5 1/2 matches; so we are doing something about it. We have run the Presidents Day Weekend tournament for over 20 years, and running large format tournaments is our specialty. Here is why our tournament is better:
We typically get quite a few Canadian teams in our tournaments. We ask that Canadian teams connect with our Region Office so that they can gather your documents. The region will collect your documents and contact us and inform us if your team is able to participate. Please do not procrastinate. The region WILL NOT allow your team to play without proper documentation.
Puget Sound Region Office: 425-673-4103, firstname.lastname@example.org
Below are links to forms that will need to be submitted to our region office so they can clear you to participate.
Registration is done through AES. You can visit www.advancedeventsystems.com to register your team.
Entry Fees will be processed through Advanced Event Systems (AES) where you can pay online or send a check to “Northwest Volleyball Foundation (NWVBF, 15801 NE 85th St., Redmond, WA 98052)). We will begin taking registrations starting November 1, 2018. Teams that enter by 3/1/19 will receive a discount. Registration deadline will be when all divisions are filled. If a team drops between 1/4/19 and 3/1/19 they will receive a full refund, less a $50 processing fee. There are no refund, after the entry deadline.
Please note that we will be charging admission for this event. Admission is $5 per adult for the weekend. Children, students with ID, and rostered team staff will be admitted free. Outside food is not allowed in the Sports Hub, so be aware we will be checking bags at the admission gate -- the gate is located in the center entrance for the building. This will delay spectator entry so plan accordingly.
The main entrance will be open 1 hour before play begins each day. Bags will be checked for food at this entrance.
Bleacher seating is abundant, so no outside chairs needed (or permitted).
Remember: Food and drink are not allowed into the facility. HUB CITY GRUB and TAPROOM will be open throughout the weekend. There will be designated areas inside the facility for teams to put their equipment, etc. (not food or coolers); there is room outside the facility for team food tables and tents.
All Spectators and participants will enter through the Main Entrance.
The entire tournament will be available in AES. We will post Tuesday prior to the tournament once all the roster have been submitted.
We will not be handing out tournament handbooks. Hard copies of gym rules and the tournament handbook will be made available below in PDF format for those that want to print one out.
Please print out your tournament handbook before you arrive.
