MLK Weekend Tournament: January 19-21, 2019

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:

The 17th Annual Under Armour MLK Weekend Tournament is an “all-comers” tournament. For U14’s and U16’s we will be a  3-day format with AM/PM Wave play on Saturday and Sunday and playoffs for all teams on Monday (7 matches minimum).

For the U12’s we decided to go with a 1-day format Sunday to encourage more teams to enter. In previous years we have not had more than 9 teams for a 2-day format. We are accepting teams first PAID, first serve until the event fills.  This should be a great early season test for teams on both sides of the border and some great Canadian teams have participated in the past. For U12, U14, and U15's teams this is a great opportunity to get your team ready for Power League Seeding Day.

For the U14's and U16's:
Three-day Tournament - Tournament HQ is The Lair Courts in Renton (Kraken VB Facility). We will initially accept 24 teams per division. Based on entries received by 12/14/18 we may expand to up to 32 teams per division.

Tournament Hotels

We have partnered with TRAVELING TEAMS® to secure discounted room blocks at a variety of tournament approved hotels close to our venues. Our MLK Weekend tournament is NOT a Stay and Play tournament this year, but they are available to help you secure your hotel rooms during this busy weekend. While not required, it is recommended that all teams traveling from out of town reserve their hotel accommodations through TRAVELING TEAMS®. They have secured the best possible options, and the hotel relationship helps us keep our costs (and entry fees) down. If there is a hotel not listed that you want to stay in, there is an option available on the website. Thank you in advance for your cooperation! Here is a LINK to the hotel reservation page.

ROSTER INFORMATION & COACHES MEETING:

Rosters need to be updated in the AES system by January 14th, 2019.  Information provided in AES will be used to help us determine eligibility of each team before the event.  PLEASE DO NOT MAIL US YOUR ROSTERS.

There will be a coaches and facility rules meeting 30 minutes before the start of your pool play on Saturday (Sunday for 12's). Please turn in your WEBPOINT USA Volleyball roster at that time (the same roster you would turn in at any USAV tournament in your region) and sign your AES roster.  Only the Webpoint roster will be turned into our region office for verification after the event.

WAIVERED PLAYERS AND ROSTERS

Coaches, note that we do not have the ability to add waivered players to AES rosters. That can only be done at the AES/USA Volleyball level.  If you have waivered players, we are aware that they will not appear on your AES roster.  As long as they are on your Webpoint roster -- WHICH YOU DO TURN IN AT THE COACHES MEETING -- then they will be legal to play this weekend.

PLAYING FORMAT

Pools and Playing Schedules will be posted in AES, and we will put a link to it here when it is available.

Depending on the format and number of matches, pool play matches will be one of two formats:

  • 2/3 to 25 points with a 27 point cap.  Game 3 is to 15, no cap.
  • 2/2 to 25 with a 27 point cap in both sets.

Playoffs will be 2/3 to 25, Game 3 to 15 — with no caps in any games.

TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ADJUST (SHORTEN) MATCHES IF WE ARE RUNNING LATE

Officials are not provided, teams must supply a first referee, second referee, lines people, and scorekeeper crew

Event tees are provided by Fine Designs and will be available at all sites.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Entry Fees will be processed through Advanced Event Systems (AES) where you can pay online or send a check to “Northwest Volleyball Foundation”.   We will begin taking registrations starting October 1, 2018.  Entries will not be accepted after January 5th, 2019.  There are no refunds after December 29, 2018.  Rosters must be provided the first week of January with a roster penalty assessed for rosters not submitted by January 14, 2018

**AES is the registration and tournament choice for USA JOVC Girls Championships, many qualifiers and regional tournaments around the nation for registering teams. It will also be used for events in the Puget Sound Region.  Please Note: When Registering on AES, make sure to change the location to Washington in order to easily find our events. As a convenience, AES gives you the opportunity to copy rosters from one event to the other. Using this as an option is a great time saver for club directors.

  1. Go to Advanced Event Systems to register your team and club.
  2. Click on Add Club if you are a new user. If you already have a password and username, skip to step 4. If not, fill out the club info and hit the submit button.
  3. Next, fill out the Club Director info, creating a username and password and making sure to keep your username and password in an accessible spot for future use.
  4. Enter your username and password and login.
  5. If your are in a Webpoint region (like Puget Sound, Columbia Empire, & Evergreen) then you can easily import players and staff by using the USAV Data Import tab on the AES page under the Club Director Column.  You will simply enter your Webpoint Username and Password to import all active players and staff in the system.
  6. If you are not from a Webpoint Region then you will need to manually enter or import players and staff.
  7. Click on “Enter Events.” Select “Washington”. Select “2019 MLK Weekend Tournament”. Select “Register Teams” and follow the registration instructions.
  8. Because this event is so early, we will not require a roster to be inputted in order for you to enter teams, however, teams must meet the roster requirements and deadline in order to participate in this event.

Tournament Updates

For USA Volleyball teams: Coaches please remember to bring your Webpoint rosters to the coaches meeting. This is your OFFICIAL roster for the weekend.   We understand some of your athletes might not have been placed on the AES roster because of the early deadline.  The AES roster deadline allows us to verify rosters and make sure all teams are legal to participate.  The Webpoint roster is your official event roster and can reflect the changes to your rosters since the AES deadline.  Please note, you cannot hand-write/add players to your Webpoint roster.

We do allow waivered players in this tournament. They will not be able to be added to your AES roster without first contacting the USAV office. They MUST appear on your USAV Webpoint roster in order to participate.

  • AT ALL SITES: DOORS OPEN TO TEAMS 45 MINUTES BEFORE PLAY BEGINS.
  • THERE WILL BE A COACHES MEETING AT YOUR SITE 30 MINUTES BEFORE PLAY BEGINS.
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT 2ND ROUND POOLS ON SATURDAY (11 AM or 5:30 PM) CAN START AS SOON AS THE COURT IS AVAILABLE; BUT FIRST ROUND MATCHES (8 AM AND 2:30 PM) CANNOT START EARLY
  • PLEASE READ FACILITY RULES ON THIS PAGE OR IN THE HANDBOOK.
