Camp Update 06/26/2020

Due to the most recent Covid-19 guidelines, we have moved our indoor camps outside.  Changes are noted on our camp listing below.  We have developed a Hybrid version of our indoor camps, which will implement both indoor volleyball and beach volleyball concepts to our campers. Your athlete will still learn the skills for indoor volleyball, as well as some beach volleyball skills in our outdoor camps. Camps will either be in the sand, on the grass – or both.

Added for August: Two new 4-day Hybrid Camps that combine beach and indoor volleyball training. We will use the six sand courts as well as two additional temporary grass courts at our NW Juniors Beach Volleyball Facility. During Phase 2 we will only be able to take 30 campers. We will place campers in groups of 4-5 of similar skill/age.

If you completed the camp "Save my Spot" you still need to register for camp....

The "save my spot" registration let us know you are interested in our camp so we can send you a registration link when a new camp opens up. But it does not register your player for our camp.  On June 25th, an e-mail was sent to everyone who completed this form letting them know our Camp Registration is open.  You will need to register for the camp and make your payment in order to secure your spot.

In order to participate in Beach Camp or our Hybrid camps players must secure AVP Membership .   This is the insurance that allows players to step foot onto the court. The cost is $20.00/year. It is required for all AVP events and programs.  When registering select "AVP America" for athletic level".

HS Select Camp - Hybrid Camp (Aug 17-19) - CANCELLED

CANCELLED

For exceptional JV & Varsity level High School athletes who will be in the 9th through 12th grade this Fall. REGISTER [HERE]

With the recent update to Phase 2 information for indoor training (limited to 5 per facility) there is no possible way we will be able to run an indoor camp August 17-19.

At this time, all we have is our outdoor beach facility and the two temporary grass courts there. Camp is primarily indoor skills, but 6 vs 6 volleyball is just impossible under the current conditions.

HS Select Camp will have to be a Hybrid Camp at our beach facility. It will also be limited to just 20 campers. Weather permitting, we will be about to do at least 60-70% of the camp on the grass. If your daughter participated in our other Hybrid Camps, it will be different because it will be mostly in the grass. We will use the sand for doubles play when it comes time for the campers to compete.

NOTE: WE HAVE CHANGED OUR INDOOR CAMPS TO HYBRID CAMPS AT OUR NW JUNIORS BEACH FACILITY

With the current health implications of the Covid-19 virus, we will move our indoor camps outdoors. An outdoor environment will be a safer environment than a closed-off gym. For this camp, our beach facility will be modified to house 2 grass courts in addition to our 6 sand courts. The format for the camp will be similar -- the focus of this camp is on skill development. Players will spend some time on the grass (hard surface, similar to indoors) as well as in the sand. A bonus to the Hybrid format is that campers will also get an introduction to beach volleyball. Because of the social distancing aspect of doubles, during the competition phase for the camp players will play mostly 2 on 2 volleyball and small games. If Snohomish County is in Phase 3 for any of our camps, we will be able to introduce and play 6 v 6 concepts and skills.

We will still run the camps in two sections with Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Groups. We place campers in groups of 4-5 athletes of similar age/skill level and our coaches run the appropriate camp (either all skills or an advanced version) for that group. All of our Hybrid Camps are good camp for all skill levels, as each group is catered towards the appropriate skill level of the group. Read below for our camp descriptions which explains skill level and content.

**In order to participate in Beach Camps or our Hybrid camps players must secure AVP Membership .  It is required for all AVP events and programs.  This is the insurance that allows players to step foot onto the court. The cost is $20.00.

Beach Camps and Hybrid Camps Schedule and Covid19 Protocals

Here are a few additional notes for you to be aware of:

  • Camp starts at 8:30 AM, and we will begin check in at 8:00 AM.
  • When campers arrive, the can put their belonging in one of the boxed areas under our tent (it will make sense when they arrive)
  • Our check-in each morning includes a temperature check, please arrive early enough for us to do this and start on time. We have a dedicated link for Covid-19 related information: https://www.nwvolleyball.com/covid19-relatedPDF of our Covid19 Protocols
  • Because it is an outdoor camp and can be taxing, we have shorter sessions and take frequent water breaks. We also take a snack break around 10:30 AM.
  • Please be on time for pick-up. Our camps are typically followed by our beach blub practices and we need to get campers out and do our cleaning before our beach club members arrive.
  • Please be sure and send extra water. Sports drinks like Gatorade would also be a good electrolyte replacement if it is unusually hot.
  • Unfortunately, spectating close to the courts is not permitted.

Daily Times (approximate):

  • 8-8:30 – Check-in
  • 8:30 – 10:30 – Session 1
  • 10:30 – 10:45 – Break
  • 10:45-12:00 – Session 2
  • 12:00 – 12:45 – Lunch
  • 12:45 – 2:00 – Session 3

CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

Please note, all of our camps are designed as 4-day camps. In the 4-day camps we introduce (beginning courts) or enhance (intermediate-advanced courts) all the individual skills on the first two days and also introduce skill appropriate concepts of team offense and team defense. Day 3 is usually built towards improving the individual skills within a team setting, and Day 4 is usually game play.

  • For the 3 day Advanced Skills camp we spend less time on individual skill drills and more time on game play. When we work individual skills, we do so primarily within the team framework.

ALL SKILLS CAMPS:

These camps are for players of any skill level entering 5th-9th grades this Fall. Each camp has a different age range depending on available courts. In the all skills camps, all players will be grouped by age and skill.  It is most important to have players of similar skill on the same court in order to keep each court moving at the proper pace.

These full-day camps spend a great deal of time on individual skill development. We will take each of the basic skills in volleyball and teach the athletes how we play the game. The ultimate goal is for each athlete to dramatically improve their level of play and their appreciation for the sport of volleyball. Areas that are heavily emphasized are ball control, movement, and attack and blocking footwork. There will also be time spent on basic concepts of team defense, serve-receive offense, and transition defense/offense. Included also are brief forums on various subjects including club volleyball, goal-setting, and when applicable college playing opportunities.  All campers are given a camp notebook with skill information and resources for future benefit. This is a great camp for those new to volleyball AND those looking to improve in their skills. By grouping campers by their skill level and running skill-appropriate drills, even the advanced players can reap the benefits of our All Skill Camps.

ADVANCED CAMPS:

Our advanced camps are reserved for experienced High School athletes who will be in the 9th through 12th grades this Fall. If you are a first time volleyball player in the 9-12th grade, please register for an all-skills camp.

Advanced Camps are our most popular camps for High School-aged Athletes. This camp is designed to give varsity and JV-level athletes some advanced training they can't get at an all-skills camp. Also, the overall level of play should be greatly increased because it is a high school only camp. The camp will concentrate on individual skill-building through advanced skill drills and position tutoring. The afternoons feature a lot of scrimmage-style drills, so experience is a must for success in this camp.  This camp spends about 50% of the time on team-related skill improvement — exactly what high school athletes need to stay sharp over the summer. Campers will spend morning sessions on individual skill development and afternoon sessions will emphasize game-play and team strategies. An additional feature of this camp will be discussions on college recruiting.

SELECT CAMPS:

Our end of Summer High School Select camp is for exceptional JV & Varsity level High School athletes who will be in the 9th through 12th grade this Fall. There is limited space in the camp as it is held at the NW Juniors 2-court practice facility.  We can only accept 28 athletes in this camp. All elite athletes with club experience are encouraged to register. 9th and 10th graders looking for that extra edge before HS tryouts begin are encouraged to enroll. We reserve the right to limit enrollment by position. This Camp runs 3 days.

This is our most popular camps for High School-aged Athletes. This camp is designed to give serious athletes some advanced training before the start of their high school seasons. Also, the overall level of play should be greatly increased because it is a high school/JV-Varsity only camp. This camp is similar to the individual skill camps, only it is designed for the advanced volleyball player. The camp will concentrate on individual skill-building through tutoring, leadership skills, and give campers an opportunity to work with the NW Juniors Elite VBC coaching staff and some College players. There will be a lot of scrimmage-style drills to get the athletes sharp before the start of the season. This camp spends over 60% of the time on team-related skill improvement — exactly what the top high school athlete needs to get a jump on their season. Campers will spend morning sessions on individual skill development and afternoon sessions will emphasize game-play and team strategies. An additional feature of this camp will be discussions on college recruiting and off-season training.

CAMP DETAILS and WHAT TO BRING

How is it Organized?

On the first session of camp all players will participate in brief testing and skill-work. Using the results, campers will be placed in an appropriate skill group. This skill group will progress through all volleyball skills and team skills together.  We strive to keep a 8-10 to 1 player to coach ratio for all of our camps.  Please note that these are not OVERNIGHT CAMPS.

What’s the Difference?  The best way we can describe the difference between the three camp formats is this way:

  • Our Basic All Skills Camps: They are about 65% basic skills instruction and drills; 35% game-like instruction.  They are good for players of all skill levels and our most popular camps.

  • Our Advance Skills Camps: They are about 50% basic skills instruction and drills; 50% game-like and are good for high school players that have a mastery of the basic skills and a good understanding of team concepts.

  • Our Select Camps, regardless of age range are Advanced/Elite Camps. Primarily for club players and candidates for our National Teams.  They are about 40% skill development and 60% live-game play.

All camps offer a great curriculum, but differ in the amount of time spent on basic skill instruction and versus game instruction and game play.  Please be realistic in the assessment of your athlete’s skill level so that they can benefit the most from whichever camp you enroll them in.
